Opening a Gym in Winnipeg – One Year In
It’s hard to believe we’ve already been open for a year. We’ve had some amazing moments and it’s hard to pinpoint them all but there are definitely some that stand out.
Our Goals
There were a lot of goals we had for this gym. We not only achieved most of them, but we surpassed them.
We had a goal of 75 members by the end of year 1. We reached 100 in 9 months. We predicted 45 total training clients. We average 75+ each week.
Our Members
Who made this possible? The family and friends who became our original members. They showed support by committing to our facility and are the foundation of our success. Not only did they believe in Movement from the beginning, but they also referred more people to us.
Our member base is made up of Powerlifters, Olympic lifters, general fitness, and other athletes. Not only do the training styles greatly vary, but our age demographic does as well.
Our youngest member is 16. Our oldest is 78. Age isn’t a factor in training here. If you’re looking for results, and a great facility to train in, Movement is the place to be.
Our Trainers
All credit for the high clientele numbers goes to our amazing team of trainers. We can’t wait to continue to work together and grow not only Movement but your personal brands as well.
Thanks to Mik Gerylo for bringing Weapon Factory to our facility. This class brought all types of athletes our way. There is no group of people out there that works harder than them. If you’re looking for creative, challenging, and fun workouts to do, this is the class for you!
To Lexie, Gavin, Brent, and Daniel. Thank you for taking a huge risk on us by bringing your clientele to Movement. We know that moving clients to a new facility is not easy and there are risks involved with making such moves. We hope the move has been as rewarding to all of you as it has been for us.
To our previous trainers who are no longer with us. We thank you for the short time you were here. Your impact, no matter how short it was, was still a difference maker in getting us to where we are now.
This includes Nigel, a former owner/trainer, who helped get Movement started but has since moved on to do his own thing. We wish all of you success moving forward.
Our Clients
We view all our clients as part of the Movement family. Like our trainers, you all had to be willing to take a chance on leaving your old training facility and give our new facility a chance. We understand the risks involved and appreciate that you were willing to do so.
To my own clients. Thank you for putting your trust in me. I enjoyed the process of working with every client and the varying goals each of you had.
Some of you were looking to lose weight, recover from injuries, or train for specific sports and to see the progress you have made is remarkable and I can only hope you all feel the same way.
Our Partners
Integrative Movement, Wild Sparrow Wellness, White Lion Athletics, Norwood Chiropractic, Nak Muay, Wild Wind Powerlifting, Pulse Fitness Systems, Bells of Steel, Advanced Massage Therapy, Action Physiotherapy, Gorilla Jack, Photo Art Film, Kyu Grill plus so much more. Thank you for all your support throughout the year.
Whether through, spreading the word, donating prizes, or supporting events, you have helped improve the gym.
Our Funders
It’s not an exaggeration to say that our business would not be here if it wasn’t for Futurpreneur. Thanks to the endless support, mentorship, and funding they provide young entrepreneurs, Movement went from a thought and dream to a detailed and thorough plan, to a now thriving business.
Our Facility
We have continued to add new equipment, whether large items or important accessories. One thing we pride ourselves on is making sure we have everything you need to make your training the best it can be.
With continued communication with members and trainers, we will keep this going into our second year.
We have made multiple layout changes, but each time we made it better based on both client and member needs. To see how the layout has changed from the start until now, only makes us want to continue adding new and exciting elements to the gym in the future.
Our Events
The Biggest highlight of the year was right at the start with our grand opening. Our gym was packed with people who came out to congratulate us and show support. The energy in the building that night was on another level and it was exactly what we needed to start off strong.
When we reached 100 members we held a member BBQ to show our thanks. All our members proved that no matter what your training background or goals are, Movement is still a family and we all celebrated as one. I know our one-year celebration will be just as fun with this group!
During the summer we hosted our first powerlifting meet, the Movement Powerlifting Classic. Not only did we host a successful meet but we also had our very own team of athletes; Power Moves. We plan on making this an annual event with even more competitors repping the home team.
Our Future
We are not going to let our current success allow us to get comfortable. It’s all about continued growth and allowing Movement to be as successful as we can possibly make it. Our goal is to create an all in one shop for your health needs.
This will all be done by strategic networking and partnering with local athletic therapists, massage therapists, nutritionists, and dieticians.
We are in the process of building a multi-use therapy room early on in our 2nd year. This new addition will allow us to expand our services to all our members and clients.
We really do have a family here and we’re excited for it to only get bigger once our services officially expand.
